MBar 2morrow - Bored To Death Music in LIC w/Pat Irwin Sat - La Familia in LIC Sun

Greetings.  I'm writing to you as I write to you.  (I'm trying to focus on the present moment, you see.)  And though I am writing to you now, I am thinking about the calendar I just glanced at.   That calendar was the catalyst which brought me to the present moment, where I am writing you.  Wait.  Does this brief reflection on the past mean I have failed in my noble quest to live in the moment?* But, I was looking at a calendar to look into the future!  no...NO! Focus....  Focus...  I am focusing on the present moment where presently, I am writing to you.

Man, this is hogwash.

Ok.

Tomorrow, Wednesday you'll find me playing trombone/ukulele and singing a couple songs at the monthly residency at the MBar.  I'll be joined by Jim Whitney on the bass and Russ Meissner on the drums.  It's a good hang in a nice room at a pleasant hour in a convenient part of town.  Wow.  That sentence was full of very positive adjectives.

Saturday is a special show indeeeeeeed.  I'll be joining Pat Irwin and a host of really great musicians as we play Pat's music from the last season of HBO's "Bored To Death."  If you're not familiar with the show, the music is cinematic, noire-y, and often has a "crime jazz" feel to it.  Being that this is all part of the LIC Arts Open festival, you can bet it's in an interesting space (and it is) and will have a very unique vibe to it (and it will.)  I've been involved with this festival for a while now, and am glad to be participating in it again this year.

Sunday I'll also be playing at another LIC Arts Open event.  Willie Martinez and the La Familia Sextet will be performing Latin Jazz at a gallery show entitled "Family" held at Ten10 Studios.  I've performed many times at Ten10, and I love this little space.  It's quirky, and a great place to take in the art that'll be shown and the music that'll be played.  There will be a donation box, and we hope you'll contribute, but there will be no cover at this event.

All the pertinent information for the above stream of conscience rambles (fully in the present moment, you dig), as well as a little look into the rest of the month, can be found by clicking on the "gig schedule" link to the right, or by clicking here.

Take care!
