Domaine Wine Bar LIC Wednesday - Rooftop Concerts Saturday and Sunday!

Greetings.  I just looked at my schedule and was kind of blown away.  All the shows I'm mentioning here are in Long Island City.  If you had told me when I moved here in 2001 that I'd one day be sending out an email with four (five) performances in LIC in two weeks, I'da laughed in your freakin' face.  Yep!

Wednesday (tomorrow) you'll find me playing trombone and ukulele in a dastardly duo situation with pianist Matt Ray.  As we play for your wine, cheese, and oysters at Domaine Bar a Vins, you will be transported into a world where they serve wine, cheese, and oysters while a band plays jazz.  For the record, Matt is awesome.

Saturday will be a very special rooftop concert with my friend and collaborator Pat Irwin.  We'll perform original and intimate duets for trombone and guitar.  We'll also be joined by Brian Cavanagh-Strong on several pieces.  This will be our 6th time playing the LIC Arts open...and this will be special for sure.  The view will be incredible.

Sunday, I'll be leading a trio set with Jim Whitney on bass and Andrew Burns on drums at that same rooftop.  I'll perhaps lean more on the ukulele side of things...playing old tunes... again a great view.

You can find all the nitty gritties for the gigs listed in the 'hood....plus a wee look ahead... by clicking the "gig schedule" link to the right.

Domaine Wine Bar in LIC Tomorrow - Emmy win - New Time @ Barbès

Greetings.  It's been a crazy last week.  I'll explain below... but first and foremost I'd like to remind you that tomorrow I'll be playing trombone/ukulele for your wine and cheese at my every-other week hang at Domaine Bar a Vins in LIC.  I'll be joined by Jon Cowherd on piano and Rene Hart on bass.

Two big pieces of news:
First, I'm proud to say that I won an Emmy (as crazy as this sounds, my fourth) for Outstanding Achievement in Musical Direction and Composition for work as music director and composer for Peg + Cat on PBS.  I shared that honor with music supervisor/audio director Steven Rebollido as well as composers Martin Erskine and DD Jackson.  Needless to say, I'm pretty thrilled.  Peg + Cat also took home a second Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Pre-School Animated program.  What a hoot that whole thing was.

Second...and this is the biggie:  Starting in May, the The Pre-War Ponies will play our monthly gig at Barbès IN THE EARLY SLOT!!!  8PM!  You can totally rock that on the school night that it is! YES!

All the info for the above mentioned shows, plus a look at the rest of the month can be found by clicking the "gig schedule" link to the right.

Domaine Wine Bar in Long Island City Tonight!

Tonight you'll find me playing trombone, ukulele, and perhaps a little bit of guitar at my jaunty every-other-Wednesday hang at Domaine Bar a Vins in beautiful Long Island City.  I will be joined by pianist Jesse Gelber and bassist Jim Whitney as we take you on a journey... going from the beginning of songs to the end of them, with slight pauses between.  Domaine is one of the most easy going places in the universe, where you can enjoy this cutting edge entertainment whilst enjoying your wine, cheese, and oysters.

Wed 4/20 8:30pm-11:00pm JWH Trio @ Domaine Bar a Vins (50-04 Vernon Blvd LIC)

Domaine Wine Bar in LIC Tonight - Superfine in DUMBO Sunday

Greetings.  I seem to remember saying, in my last correspondence with you, that I would try to give you more notice before a show.  Hmmm.  Seems that flogging of my marketing department a couple weeks back didn't produce the results I had hoped for...

Ok... Tonight you'll find me leading a trio at Domaine Bar a Vins in beautiful Long Island City with Jesse Gelber on piano and Tim Ferguson on bass.  It's a mellow hang.

Sunday evening I'll be joining Daria Grace and The Pre-War Ponies at Superfine in DUMBO.  Superfine has a great vibe.  The food rocks.  The pork chop is sublime.

You'll find the deets for the above mentioned options for your calendar by clicking the "gig schedule" link to the right, as well as a look ahead.

Domaine Wine Bar in LIC Tomorrow - Barbès in Park Slope Thursday - New Horn

Howaaaaaaya?  This sentence is a preamble to a not so ramble-y ramble to handle as you scramble to the gamble of a new day.

I have a "new" (old!) horn, and am psyched to be breaking it in this week.  Or maybe it's breaking me in.  I dunno.  Something's breaking!

Tomorrow, I'll lead a trio w/Jesse Gelber on piano and Brian Nalepka on the bass.  I'm considering bringing a guitar (as well as the usual uke.)  We'll see.  Guitar or not, we'll be playing for you and your wine and your cheese and your oysters at Domaine Bar a Vins in beautiful Long Island City... right by the 7 train.  Cozy.  Mellow.  French.  Oui!

Thursday, I'll be playing with Daria Grace and the The Pre-War Ponies at our usual monthly hang at Barbès in Park Slope.  This place, coincidently, is also very French. (Oui Oui!!) It also sports one of the best listening rooms on the planet.

I shall ramble no more.  Click on the "gig schedule" link to the right for the actual deets and a look ahead.

"Get Out Under The Moon" released - Barbés Thursday - Bar Lunatico Saturday

Greetings.

First things first:  I will not be performing as planned tonight at Domaine Bar a Vins in LIC due to a convergence of deadlines and a divergence in schedules.  That said, the club was extremely nice and flexible with my mere 24 hours notice, so if you're in the neck of the woods tonight and hankering for a glass of vino, stop by and give them your business anyway.  :)  Those guys are awesome.  I'll be back there on the 24th (see schedule below.)

After 4 years of recording and mixing, a crowd funding campaign, and doing our best to figure out how the heck to put out a record ourselves... on January 20th, The Pre-War Ponies new album "dropped."  That's hip-speak saying that it's now available to anyone in the world (barring government firewalls and general computer access.)   You can download it at iTunes and Amazon.  You can also get physical copies of CDs and LP records (yes, you read that right...and the LP sounds great) at prewarponies.bandcamp.com.   The record is awesome.  Get your copy today!

Or...come see us live.  We'll be at our monthly residency in Brooklyn tomorrow night at Barbés, the most awesome listening room in NYC.  That is always a mellow good time.

I'll be playing in Brooklyn again on Saturday, this time with singer-songwriter powerhouse, Richard Julian.  He puts on an incredible show, and is a top notch songwriter.  His songs are witty, intelligent, and he delivers them in a way that will keep you completely engaged and entertained all night.  Bar LunÀtico is just awesome, too.  They sport one of the very best margaritas in NYC, complete with "imported" fresh Key Lime.

You'll find all the info for the above mentioned situations, as well as a look to the month ahead by clicking on the "gig schedule" link on the right.

Take care!
