Nuyorican 2nite - Domaine in LIC tomorrow + more

Greetings.  I send this email to you in mid deadline scramble.  There's so much going on...  morning coffee has already come and gone, so I'll just get right to it, as opposed to the usual blah blah blah.  You're welcome.

Tonight!  I'll be playing latin jazz trombone with the Willie Martinez La Familia Sextet.  This is our first time back to the Nuyorican in 2015, and our first time in our newly anointed slot: The last Tuesday of the month.  (Used to be Thursday.) The Nuyorican Poet’s Café is one of the very last old school arts vestiges in the Lower East Side.  It's a kooky space, and a great band tonight.  Get it while you still can.

Tomorrow, Wednesday Feb 24th, 8-11 I'll be leading a trio with Jesse Gelber on the piano and Brian Nalepka on the bass as we start the official first night of my residency at Domaine Wine Bar in Long Island City.  I'll be leading a band every other Wednesday.  It's really great to finally have a little steady situation in a cozy little place in my own hood.  It's right by the entrance to the Vernon Jackson stop on the 7, one stop from Grand Central.  Manhattan, you can do this.  Oh, it's a short walk from the G too, so Brooklyn, you're not off the hook.  So, c'mon by and say hi!  It'll be a hang.

In other news, I was interviewed by Finn Miller for his radio show on WUSB, "The Revolution."  I talk about the upcoming Pre-War Ponies release (pre-order your copy and help us get this thing out in the world...thanks!) and we kibitz about music for children's television, and the state of my messy studio. Tune in tonight 7-9pm EST (the 30 min interview will be sometime in there, I don't know exactly when) WUSB 90.1 FM here in the NYC area, and http://wusb.fm anywhere else in the world.

All the important updated details of the above mentioned gigs can be found by going to the gig schedule page.

Take care!

Barbes 2nite - Domaine Wine Bar LIC Wednesday + more!

Greetings.

Well, I'm writing a little bleary eyed as it seems I'm back in the land of deadlines.  This, of course, hasn't kept me from booking myself with gusto.  Good to see I've yet to learn my lesson.  Oy.

Tonight!  I'll be playing with Daria Grace and The Pre-War Ponies at Barbès in Brooklyn.  Hey!  We've got a new record coming out... please pre-order your copy today.  You'll get your copy ASAP, and we'll be able to, er, make the record. You see, it's a semi-bionic relationship!  Or... uh, something like that.  We'll also be playing a Valentine's Day concert at the Eclectic Cafe in Long Island on Saturday.  That'll be fun.

Mardi Gras (next Tuesday, er, the "fat" one) I'll be playing more New Orleans music with Smith & 9th Ward at Brooklyn Bowl opening for Henry Butler + Steven Bernstein and The Hot 9.

Wednesday (2/18)  I'll lead a trio in Long Island City at Domaine Wine Bar.  It's been a while since I've done a trio thing (I miss playing and seeing everyone at the MBar...) Domaine is a really cozy little spot with a piano right by the entrance to the 7 train. (One stop from Grand Central!) I've been trying to find an easy going place in the neighborhood to play...maybe even somewhat regularly.  If you can make it out next Wednesday, it would be greatly appreciated, and it also may increase the chances that we'd play there again.  I think you'll enjoy it.  It'll be a mellow good time.

All the info for the above mentioned gigs, as well as a look ahead to the rest of the month, is on the gig schedule page.

AND FURTHERMORE! Here's an excerpt of Daria's first vocal chorus and my ukulele solo from the song "What Do We Do On A Dew Dew Dewy Day" from the Pre War Ponies' upcoming record entitled "Get Out Under The Moon."  Pre-Order one here!

Pre Order the Pre-War Ponies new record!

Greetings.

Order here: http://tinyurl.com/l2uglj9

After four years of working on this thing in my studio, Daria Grace and I have finally finished recording, mixing, and mastering the Pre-War Ponies' second record... and I think it sounds freakin' awesome.  (Yeah, I'm biased, but let's not get technical.)  It's a collection of 14 kinda-obscure to very-obscure Tin-Pan-Alley tunes from the 20's - 40's. It has a bunch of really awesome musicians on it, each of whom I'm proud to call my friend.  It also is a very playable, fun record that I think you'll enjoy having around (even if there are a bunch of trombone and ukulele solos on it.)

That said, it is 2015 and the music business isn't what it was.  As hard as this may be to believe, *ahem* I don't have a veritable beaucoup of record companies breaking down my door to press my next project.  Therefore, enter crowd funding and
Rockethub.

It works this way:  If you pre order a copy of "Get Out Under The Moon" we'll be able to use those pre-order funds to finish the last steps of the production process (manufacturing, licensing, artwork, promotion, etc) and we can get you your goods.  There are a few formats to choose from (CD, LP, digital download...even cassette) as well as some other goodies.

Rockethub is like Kickstarter (who you may have heard of before) however, we keep anything we raise, regardless if we make our goal or not.  Rockethub was also started by some really cool folks I know from the LIC music scene, and I'm happy to keep our business "local."

For more info and to make an order, c l i c k  h e r e.  :) :)

Anyhoo, enough of this spiel. (Not that you won't be hearing from me about it again...)

Also, I do have a few gigs booked this month, both with the Pre-War Ponies and other musical situations... so check out the gig schedule page if you'd like more info.
